Accounting Clerk

Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary Range: TT$6,000 – TT$8,000 monthly

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Clerk provides essential financial and administrative support to the Accounting Department. The role is responsible for the accurate processing, monitoring, and reconciliation of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger activities. The incumbent works closely with the Accountant to ensure accurate financial records, compliance with company policies, and timely reporting of all financial transactions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process payment vouchers and prepare cheques in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Assist with supplier payments and respond to supplier queries
  • Prepare and dispatch customer statements on a monthly basis
  • Monitor customer accounts and follow up on overdue payments
  • Contact credit customers regarding outstanding balances
  • Assist in preparing and reconciling General Ledger accounts as assigned
  • Prepare supporting schedules for reconciliations
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable sub-ledgers to the General Ledger
  • Assist in preparing monthly journal entries for receivables, payables, and general ledger adjustments
  • Support payroll processing including calculation of wages, benefits, deductions, and hours worked
  • Reconcile and prepare statutory payments on a monthly basis
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll and employee data entry
  • Input financial data including invoices, payment vouchers, employee hours, and journal entries
  • Maintain filing systems for accounting and payroll records
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information at all times
  • Assist with annual audits by preparing schedules and retrieving supporting documents
  • Conduct monthly audits of sales transactions, invoices, and receipts
  • Perform random checks on pricing accuracy and invoice validity
  • Advise Accountant on customers exceeding credit limits

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • ACCA Level I or equivalent accounting qualification
  • Minimum five (5) CXC / GCE O’Level passes including Mathematics and English
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar accounting or finance role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems (preferably Sage 50 or simil
