We're hiring an Accounting Clerk for our client in Kingston.
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for providing financial and administrative support to ensure effective, accurate, and timely financial operations in a hardware store setting. The ideal candidate will handle accounts payable and receivable, maintain accurate records, assist with bank reconciliations, and provide clerical support to the accounting department.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Process and record vendor invoices, ensuring proper documentation and timely payments.
Prepare customer invoices, issue receipts, and monitor customer accounts.
Follow up on outstanding receivables and communicate with customers regarding overdue balances.
Financial Recordkeeping:
Maintain an organized filing system of financial documents.
Enter daily transactions into the accounting system.
Assist with data entry, updating ledgers, and verifying financial information.
Banking & Reconciliation:
Prepare and process bank deposits.
Assist with monthly bank and account reconciliations.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Reporting & Support:
Generate and submit routine financial reports (e.g., sales reports, expense reports).
Support the preparation of monthly financial statements.
Provide administrative support to the Finance Manager and assist during audits.
Inventory & Vendor Support:
Reconcile inventory purchases with supplier invoices.
Liaise with the purchasing and warehouse departments to ensure accuracy in documentation.
Compliance & Accuracy:
Ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal financial policies.
Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive financial information.
Associate Degree or Diploma in Accounting or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a retail or hardware environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
Experience in inventory and POS systems is an asset.
High attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to meet deadlines and work independently or as part of a team.
Understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
