Accounting Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Assistant – General Ledger supports technical accounting for deferred tax, fixed assets, financial instruments, the quarter financial statement preparation, prepares and enters journal entries, prepares account reconciliations, maintains journal files, and prepares schedules and reconciliations to support external and internal audit, and performs daily work under the supervision of the Assistant Accountant.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains all asset disposal forms and summarises for the PDAC disposal committee approval monthly.
  • Performs semi-annual tests of Internal Control over Financial Reporting and compliance with accounting standards and remediates gaps.
  • Supports the annual audit with the preparation of schedules and reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts assigned.
  • Applies IAS 16 – Property Plant and Equipment component accounting standard and prepares journal entries for fixed assets and depreciation and amortisation, prepares fixed asset reconciliations, asset write-offs, transfers, and maintains supporting documents, updates the journal register and maintains all journals are properly filed with supporting documentation.
  • Reviews the product of IFRS 9 Financial Instruments annual calculation of expected credit losses and prepares journal entries for all sales and local taxes, insurance, bad debts, medical plans, pensions, salaries, accruals, prepayments, variable sales, leases, and other transactions as directed by the supervisor, updates the journal register and maintains all journals are properly filed with supporting documentation.
  • Maintains pension, medical benefits, fixed asset input documents and identifies the permanent and temporary timing differences for deferred tax calculations.
  • Prepares variance reports monthly on all significant transactions that affect financial results and supports preparation of the annual financial statement notes to the accounts.
  • Maintains a reconciliation and register of all corporate tax return files and reconciliation to reported profit.  
  • Maintains and reviews procedures to ensure the monthly trial balance meets the CEAVOP assertions and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Performs other related duties as may be required by the job function.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • ACCA Level I and pursuing Level II.
  • At least three (3) years’ work experience in an accounting or audit environment.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining audit files and documentation.
  • Proficiency in the use of financial accounting software for group consolidation.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite in particular Microsoft Excel modelling.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills.
  • Keen analytical skills.
