The Accounting Assistant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of foreign and local remittances and payments and for contributing to the overall efficient administration of the Company’s accounts payable and receivable function.

JOB SUMMARY:      

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of foreign and local remittances and payments and for contributing to the overall efficient administration of the Company’s accounts payable and receivable function. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Accurately input financial data such as invoices, receipts, and payments into accounting software or spreadsheets, and maintaining organised financial records.
  • Prepare, review, and process supplier and customer invoices, ensuring timely payments and reconciliations.
  • Liaise with all relevant personnel, including but not limited to Sales Representatives and customers, regarding payments.
  • Address routine questions from colleagues, customers, or vendors regarding invoices, payments, or account statuses.
  • Prepare letters to the bank for payment to suppliers and requests for certified cheques.
  • Reconcile local and foreign customer and supplier statements to the sub-ledger account in keeping with established schedules.
  • Organise and maintain both digital and physical financial documents for easy retrieval and compliance with legal standards.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, summaries, and supporting documentation for accounting periods.
  • Gather and provide necessary documentation and explanations during internal or external audits.
  • Ensure sensitive financial information is handled discreetly and in accordance with company policies and data protection regulations. 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five (5) GCE/CXC O’Levels passes, including English, Mathematics and Principles of Accounts. 

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION:

  • CAT certified or currently pursuing ACCA. 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two (2) years but not more than three (3) years experience in the accounting field.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of General Accounting Principles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written).
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must be flexible.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Must be able to work to deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Tools.
