We're hiring an Accountant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced Accountant to manage and oversee daily accounting operations. The Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with Jamaican tax regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local reporting standards.

  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure timely posting of all journal entries.

  • Generate financial reports to support decision-making and monitor organizational performance.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Manage and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely collections and payments.

  • Process vendor invoices and expense claims and prepare payment schedules.

Banking & Reconciliation:

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure financial stability.

  • Prepare cash forecasts and support liquidity planning.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Prepare and file statutory tax returns (GCT, PAYE, NHT, NIS, Education Tax, and Corporate Income Tax).

  • Liaise with the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) and other regulatory bodies as necessary.

  • Stay current with changes in tax legislation and ensure full compliance.

Payroll Support:

  • Support payroll preparation and ensure statutory deductions are calculated and submitted accurately and on time.

Audit & Controls:

  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Maintain and improve internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure accurate reporting.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

  • Analyze variances between actuals and budget, providing insights to management.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • ACCA Level II/III or CPA designation (completed or in progress) preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Jamaican tax laws and financial regulations.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree, or Sage).

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
