Role Overview

The accountant will be responsible for managing the company’s financial operations in Trinidad, ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate with internal staff and external auditors. The accountant will oversee two Accounts Assistants, manage financial facilities, and provide accurate reporting to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Oversight: Supervise and mentor two Accounts Assistants, ensuring accuracy and compliance in daily financial transactions.
  • Audit Preparation: Design and complete audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • External Liaison: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, providing timely information and clarifications.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and local regulations.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to tax laws, statutory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Overdraft & Facilities Management: Manage the organization’s overdraft and other banking facilities, maintaining optimal cash flow and financial stability.
  • Job Costing Oversight: Oversee job costing sheets for all projects, ensuring accuracy, proper allocation of expenses, and profitability analysis.
  • Salary File Review: Check and verify salary files for accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience, ideally in oil & gas or energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Trinidad & Tobago tax regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Peachtree Accounting Software and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Reporting Line

  • Reports directly to the General Manager.
  • Supervises two Accounts Assistants.
  • Collaborates with external auditors during audit cycles.
