JOB DESCRIPTION:        The Accountant is responsible for ensuring financial integrity through precise record-keeping, comprehensive reconciliations, and rigorous adherence to accounting standards. This involves the full general ledger cycle, driving the month-end closing process, and providing the necessary information used for financial reporting.

The role is also responsible for ensuring that all general ledger accounts are supported by the respective schedules and reconciliations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Journal Entry Management:

  • Prepare and record complex journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and allocations, ensuring all transactions are backed by proper documentation.
  • Review and post journal entries prepared by team members to ensure accurate accounting and support documentation.
  • Review and post project journals to ensure accuracy and process flow through Job Cost and WIP in the general ledger.
  • Ensure that all journal entries have proper descriptions and all signatures are affixed during the process
  • Ensure proper filing of all journal entries

General Leger Management:

  • Responsible for adding and editing all general ledger accounts 
  • Ensure that general ledger account sequences are properly ordered and accurately classified
  • Ensure that all new accounts are communicated for update to the financial reports
  • Ensure that the general ledger accounts reflect its true accounting nature (Debit/Credit).
  • Lead the closing cycle by meeting strict deadlines and ensuring the Trial Balance is accurate

Reporting and reconciliation:

  • Perform monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts (cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intercompany accounts) to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger, recording acquisitions, disposals, and monthly depreciation schedules
  • Perform variance analysis (Actual vs. Budget or Month-over-Month) to explain fluctuations in expenses or balance sheet accounts
  • Assist with external and internal audits by preparing work papers and providing supporting documentation for audit inquiries.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements

 Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting tasks and improve the efficiency of the financial reporting cycle.
  • Actively participates in the planning, testing and implementation of new ERP management systems and other efficiency‑enhancing tools.

 EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance or Equivalent.
  • Minimum three to five years’ experience of related work experience.
  • ACCA and/or CPA qualification would be an asset.
