We are looking for a capable Accountant who will work closely with the Financial Controller and other team members to help our accounting department run smoothly, ensuring transparency and efficiency in all transactions

Primary Objective of the job

  • Prepare and enter journals for financial statements
  • Cost Allocation for shipments
  • Monthly Income Tax expense
  • Other accruals as needed
  • Staff Sales payments monthly
  • Salary Advanced payments monthly
  • Staff Savings Monthly
  • Staff loan payments monthly
  • Monthly Salary and related deductions Journal
  • Allocation of monthly property insurance
  • Depreciation charges for the month
  • Depreciation on Leased MV monthly
  • Bank Charges and other bank entries as needed
  • FX Gain or loss on Vendor payments
  • FX Gain/Loss on USD Account
  • Entries on Dividend Account
  • Interest income and withholding tax on investments (Investments Schedule maintenance)
  • Monthly Gas Allocation
  • Sage Subscription write off from prepayments
  • Check entry of batches for cheques/accounts payable
  • Enter credit card transactions in the general ledger
  • Perform reconciliation for the USD and J$ bank accounts
  • Perform reconciliation of the Main Credit Card
  • Prepare and maintain petty cash float
  • On a daily basis, prepare cash sales lodgements
  • Process the designated warehouse stock count monthly/ periodically as needed
  • Process costing of containers and other break-bulk shipments
  • Prepared Journals to record the costing of containers and breakbulk
  • Provide cover for the vetting of monthly and weekly payroll as needed
  • Provide cover for the preparation of weekly and monthly payroll as needed
  • Preparation of P&L and Balance Sheet schedules monthly
  • Assist with the annual audit activities
  • Preparation of Overseas Suppliers reconciliations and monitoring of outstanding amounts
  • Maintenance of Fixed Asset Register
  • Enter miscellaneous deposits and Journals on approval from FC
  • Any other accounting duties assigned
Academic qualifications and experience required for the job:
  • BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field
  • 5 years of work experience in accounting
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant Accounting software/ERP

Functional Skills:

  • Familiarity with the requisite finance regulations
  • Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (Sage Accpac)
  • Great organization skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Communication skills
  • Sense of urgency
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Time management skills
