Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for the company’s end-to-end financial management, including accounting operations, budgeting, statutory compliance, and financial reporting. This role supports decision-making through accurate financial insights, ensures compliance with Antigua regulatory requirements, and upholds strong internal controls. The Accountant will also provide leadership to the accounting team and maintain close collaboration with management and regional finance.
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Lead and supervise the accounting team, setting clear performance expectations.
- Provide training, coaching, and professional development for accounting staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement in financial operations.
- Liaise with the Regional Accountant to align on group finance policies and procedures.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Maintain and reconcile the General Ledger, ensuring proper accounting treatment for all entries.
- Oversee and process Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory, and Payroll (weekly and monthly).
- Review and approve all payment transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policy.
- Monitor cash flow and manage relationships with banks and creditors.
- Maintain and reconcile intercompany balances and fixed asset registers.
- Manage insurance policies, renewals, and claims.
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts with variance reports.
- Coordinate year-end audits, prepare audited financial statements, and maintain supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely filing of statutory returns, including ABST, Social Security, etc.
- Manage company tax obligations, capital allowances, and liaise with tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and local accounting standards.
- Maintain secure financial records and ensure data integrity in accounting systems.
Budgeting & Strategic Support
- Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with management and monitor budget performance.
- Provide financial insights and cost-control recommendations to support operational decision-making.
- Analyze financial trends and propose strategies for improving efficiency and profitability.
Operational Support
- Support the General Manager with financial information for operational planning.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax accountants, and banking partners.
- Assist with internal control improvements to safeguard company assets.
- Any other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting or financial management.
- ACCA qualification (or progress toward it) is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, Antigua tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
