Accountant

 Location (Local) Accountant –Trinidad

 Seeking a hands-on Location Accountant responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the local branch. The role ensures compliance with accounting standards, statutory requirements, and internal controls while executing routine financial reporting and accounting cycles. The Accountant works closely with management and shared services to maintain stable, reliable accounting systems and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including recording vendor bills and customer transactions.
  • Process payments as required, including domestic and international wire transfers.
  • Oversee the branch’s credit facility, ensuring timely collection of customer payments. 
  • Maintain prepaid expense and fixed asset accounting, including depreciation and amortization.
  • Review inventory adjustments and reconcile inventory-related balance sheet accounts.
  • Oversee bank account reconciliations for outsourced accounts, providing required data and assisting with investigations of any discrepancies and post FX differences as needed.
  • Perform the credit card account reconciliation, monitor the cash account reconciled by the AR Assistant,
  • Monitor POS cash draws, overseeing the AR Assistant’s reconciliations, and assist with investigating shortages or overages as needed..
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Prepare financial statements and management reports, including trial balances, profit & loss statements, and balance sheets.
  • Prepare annual budgets and rolling cash flow forecasts; monitor budget versus actual performance and analyze variances.
  • Prepare VAT returns, post entries, and coordinate statutory payments.

 

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or ACCA Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role
  • Strong ERP and Excel skills (Odoo experience is an asset)
  • Solid knowledge of GL, AR/AP, inventory, and reconciliations
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical ability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
