Our client, an organisation in the financial services sector, is seeking to fill the position of Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant is responsible for the administration of the accounting system to ensure the integrity of accounting records by coordinating the day-to-day execution of core accounting functions, maintaining robust internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial reporting standards, and delivering accurate, timely financial information. The Accountant also plays a key role in maintaining the reliability of financial data used for decision-making and external reporting and supports organisational strategy through diligent cash flow management, budget coordination, and policy development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recommends accounting policies, procedures and controls for the department and organisation in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates the month-end close process and prepares preliminary financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Monitors and manages daily cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs.
  • Assists in the preparation of the company’s annual budget by gathering financial and economic data, analysing trends, and providing input to support accurate forecasting and effective financial planning in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Reviews and validates accounting entries, reconciliations, financial records, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with IFRS, internal standards, relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ensures timely and accurate remittance of all statutory deductions and filing of taxes.
  • Ensures appropriate accounting treatment for complex financial instruments and investment products, in accordance with IFRS.
  • Ensures all bank and other assigned reconciliations are completed and discrepancies resolved within prescribed deadlines.
  • Coaches and develops direct reports to enhance team efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation to support audit readiness year-round.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure member satisfaction and internal service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • ACCA professional designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the Credit Union or financial services sector.
  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), local tax laws, and industry regulations.
