The Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including journal entries, accounts receivable and payable, financial technology systems, and other related administrative functions.

The Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including journal entries, accounts receivable and payable, financial technology systems, and other related administrative functions. The role also manages operational relationships and serves as the primary liaison with all regulatory bodies.

This position ensures compliance with established reporting and monitoring frameworks to maintain appropriate governance, control over financial reporting, asset management, and regulatory obligations. The role further leads all IFRS initiatives, including their implementation within the department.

The Accountant is accountable for the timely reconciliation and reporting of financial statements and prepares financial analyses for the CFAO and other key stakeholders as required. In addition, the role maintains accurate fiscal records and acts as the main point of contact for internal staff regarding invoicing, supplier payments, cash receipts, revenue, and budgeting. The position also supports process improvement by implementing financial software solutions and training staff to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and information flow.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Strategic Financial Leadership
• Develops and executes financial strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
• Provides financial insights to the Managing Director and CFAO to support decision-making.
• Leads financial planning, forecasting, and risk management initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance & Governance
• Ensures compliance with the requirements of IFRS
• Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and applicable regional financial regulations.
• Oversees tax planning and compliance with Caribbean tax legislation.
• Maintains strong corporate governance and internal controls.

Financial Operations & Optimization
• Preparation of Preparation of IFRS compliant financial statements for small and medium-sized businesses.
• Ensuring that day-to day- transactions such as accounts payable, cash receipt and accounts receivables, credit card transactions, and payroll are recorded accurately and timely.
• Performing timely and accurate month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations (e.g. fixed assets, revenues, expenses, payroll allocations, etc.), ensuring that accounting schedules are updated and accurate.
• Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition.
• Directs accounting, treasury, and investment accounting operations.
• Manages the relationships with the Regulatory Bodies and ensures clarity on reporting
• Performs fiscal year-end close activities and assisting with activities and requirements of external auditors.
• Manages the Internal, Independent and any Regulatory Audits and liaises with internal and external personnel as required to ensure timely completion of audit activities.
• Implements cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements.

Cash & Investment Management
• Manages cash flow and directs and oversees all reporting thereon, including forecasting and oversight of investment portfolio
• Manages capital adequacy and solvency requirements.

Leadership & Organizational Development
• Drives financial team performance to achieve Company, Divisional and Departmental objectives.
• Fosters a high-performance culture through mentorship and professional development.
• Any other projects or job duties as assigned by the Chief Financial and Administration Officer.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• First Degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized tertiary educational institution.
• ACCA qualified
• Postgraduate qualification in a related field would be considered an asset.
• At least 5 years in finance roles, with experience managing teams.
• Deep and working knowledge of IFRS with experience in implementing new IFRS’ for small and medium-sized organisations.
• Advanced proficiency and knowledge of financial systems and tools.
• Knowledge of Project and Change Management methodologies.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) with expertise in Excel required.
• Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
• Proficiency and hands-on experience with financial management software (e.g., Oracle, Sage Accounting) required.
• Experience overseeing the annual audit.
• Superior data management and data analysis skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to explain financial terms in simple language.
