JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will provide support to the finance department by conducting daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be well-versed with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Jamaican tax and regulatory requirements and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail.

The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the company to be fully aware of its’ financial condition. This way it can make the right decisions and accomplish long term success.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams in the Company's different operations to understand and assess processes and related controls and provide recommendations to address control issues or process improvement opportunities.
  • Record and post financial transactions to facilitate preparation of monthly/yearly financial statements and reports.
  • Prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Carry out special reviews and research as required by the Financial Controller and or Chief Accountant.
  • Prepare monthly GCT computations and returns.
  • Reconcile foreign vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support accounts payables and receivable functions – including invoice processing and supplier payments.
  • Assist with preparations for audits, responding to information requests and preparing assigned client schedules for external auditors.
  • Perform the review of the ‘Cashier Daily Report’ and lodgments prepared for submission to the bank.
  • Prepare monthly working paper files for key Financial Statements Areas (FSA)/balances to incorporate analysis of findings and recommendations for review by Financial Controller and/or Chief Accountant.
  • Liaise with banks as well as verifying direct deposits when required.
  • Review and approve petty cash imprest funds when required.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of all accounting records.
  • Provide administrative and ad hoc support to the finance team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Pursuing ACCA Applied Skills Level Certification OR Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Working knowledge of relevant information technology systems and applications.
  • Knowledge of PBS would be an asset.
  • At least 3 years' experience in an Accounting position.
