Primary responsibility for general accounting

ACCOUNTANT

 

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for general accounting; preparing vendor payments, reviewing and analyzing financial information, providing accurate and timely financial reports ensuring accuracy, completeness and conformance to accounting principles and practices. Maintain financial security by following all established internal controls.

 

Main Responsibilities include:

Reporting to the Finance Team Lead, the selected candidate will:

  • Establish and maintain accounting transactions; prepare monthly journal entries and accounting corrections to ensure accurate accounting records.
  • Prepare subsidiary journals, registers and staff entries to ensure proper account coding, documentation and account balancing.
  • Prepare ledgers, balance sheets and account reconciliations; assist in the preparation, analysis and review of operating costs, revenue estimates, reimbursements, expenditures, fund condition and other budget or proprietary information.
  • Prepare a variety of financial reports including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, operational cost reports, variance reports and financial forecasts for local and corporate reporting.
  • Prepare and process vendor payments in accordance with established policies and procedures and existing terms. 
  • Review invoices, financial transactions and supporting documentation against terms of contract and purchase orders.
  • Prepare month-end closing entries.
  • Prepare various bank deposits.
  • Prepare accrual listing as required for inclusion in the monthly accounts.
  • Assist with calculating taxes and providing tax planning advice.
  • Prepare monthly and annual payroll tax returns, statutory and voluntary pay overs for submission to statutory agencies. 
  • Assist with the internal and external financial audit process of the Company.
  • Prepare various financial and non-financial reports as required.
  • Maintain financial security by following all established internal controls. Ensure recorded financial transactions are correct and address discrepancies.

 

Required Competencies:

  • Sound working knowledge of Accounting principles and practices, computerized financial systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial and statistical data.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office software applications – MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: ability to create presentations, charts, graphs and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify process improvements.

 

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • BSc. in Accounting /Business Administration.
  • Three years experience.
