Accountant (Independent Contractor)


Job Scope
As the Accountant, the incumbent will oversee the business's day-to-day financial operations. The role entails managing accounting records, evaluating and managing risk, ensuring compliance with regulations, generating financial statements, analyzing financial data, monitoring expenditure, forecasting revenue, payroll processing, coordinating auditing processes, and ensuring accuracy of financial information.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets, including incorporating historical data to guide decision-making;
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure the accuracy of financial records;
  • Identify efficiencies and opportunities for cost reductions across the business;
  • In partnership with the GM and CEO, develop financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting;
  • Maintain accurate financial records including but not limited to managing petty cash and ensuring accurate documentation and reconciliation of petty cash transactions;
  • Ensure invoices are properly approved and coded in the general ledger;
  • Prepare and issue invoices to clients accurately and on time;
  • Follow up with clients on outstanding payments and ensure timely collection of receivables;
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure clients are billed appropriately for services rendered;
  • Approve staff loans and ensure provisions are in place to recoup the loan amount;
  • Handle payroll processing and labor tax compliance;
  • Prepare company tax and financial statements, including public filings with Tax Administration of Jamaica;
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures;
  • Maintain a current TCC;
  • Create and monitor company policies and internal controls, especially spending controls, to safeguard company assets and reduce fraud.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and precision in financial records and transactions;
  • Efficiently prioritize tasks and manage workload to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues, clients, and vendors;
  • Proficiency in analyzing financial data and identifying trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement and providing financial insights that inform organizational goals and priorities;
  • Ability to maintain organized financial records and documentation for easy retrieval and reference;
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in handling financial information;
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or similar programs;
  • Must be fit and proper, as determined under regulation 8 of “ACCA’s Global Practicing Regulations.” A clean credit check will be required;
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field;
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
