ACCOUNTING MANAGER- SEABOARD MARINE

 

Our Client, Seaboard Marine, is looking for a driven and highly responsible Accounting Manager to join the Jamaica team. He/ she will support the Controller in managing the full cycle of accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting for its Jamaica subsidiary. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting in accordance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP, and Jamaican statutory requirements. The Accounting Manager will collaborate closely with the accounting team at the headquarters in Miami, FL (United States), to ensure alignment on financial reporting and compliance.

 ABOUT THE ROLE AND THE PERSON

Reporting to the Controller, Jamaica, the Accounting Manager provides support in managing the full cycle of accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting for the SML Jamaica subsidiary. The incumbent will exhibit strong leadership capability with an innovative mindset and be able to adapt to change while embracing new technology.

 

The Accounting Manager has the following principal accountabilities:

  • Supervise all aspects of general and fiscal accounting in compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Assist and supervise month-end and year-end close processes in line with group reporting timelines.
  • Assist in the preparation and oversight of financial reporting activities, including the reconciliation of daily collections, mid and month-end A/R aging analysis, weekly monitoring and analysis of customers' credit accounts, and monitoring and reconciliation of accounts payable.
  • Monitoring, analysis, and booking of vessel expenses, vessel liquidation, and month-end accruals, intercompany account reconciliation, preparation of Financial Statements for the agency and line, and preparation of other month-end closing reports on a timely basis.  
  • Analyze financial data and deliver insights for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, including variance analysis.
  • Supervise treasury, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities.
  • Support the controller in coordinating internal and external audits; maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Analyze financial data and deliver insights for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Assist the controller in implementing and reinforcing internal control processes and compliance mechanisms.

Qualifications, Experience and Profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; Master’s Degree preferred. 

• Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in an accounting   

    manager or similar role.

 • General understanding of Jamaican tax code and labor law.

• Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Experience working in a large business operation.

• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.

• Strong leadership and people management skills.

• Knowledge of global and local accounting standards.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

• Proactive approach to risk management and internal controls.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed. 

• Ability to occasionally work in outdoor environment and Terminal facilities during physical   

    inventory counts, with possible exposure to weather elements.

 

Candidates with any/all of these differentiators will have a clear advantage:

 • Public accounting firm experience

• Sarbanes-Oxley compliance/internal audit experience

• Experience in a large multinational company with a U.S. parent company and related

   stakeholder management.

 • Maritime or transportation industry experience
