The NOC ENGINEER is responsible maintaining the efficient operation of the Digicel cellular network 24 hours by acknowledging and investigating all faults which occur on the network.

  1. The NOC ENGINEER is responsible maintaining the efficient operation of the Digicel cellular network 24 hours by acknowledging and investigating all faults which occur on the network. It is also responsible for providing first line support for all Switching, Transmission and Value Added Network nodes as well as to Customer Care, Field Engineers, Radio Frequency Engineers and contractors. The NOC Engineer shall also maintain and manipulate trouble ticket, planned works as well as provide customer service data report.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Continuously seeks and capitalizes on opportunities to exceed the expectations of customers (internal and external) by placing a keen interest on understanding and effectively resolving customer-impacting issues in a professional and result-oriented manner.
Acknowledge and Investigate Faults on Network Work Nodes
Maintenance (Preventative and Corrective)
  • Raise, track, update and close trouble tickets and or CSR's on all network
  • elements.
  • Maintain a daily log of all faults experienced on the network, site visits and work done at these sites.
  • Performance of generator and equipment routines at Main office switch site
  • DC power plant (batteries + high voltage rectifiers), UPS, Inverter routines at Main office switch site
  • Perform backup of all network nodes.
  • Coordination of network upgrades.
Source and Compile data for preparation of reports
First line Support To External Departments and Network nodes
  • Inform and update regularly; Customer Care of any service affecting faults and interconnect competitors, of any faults that may raise alarm or affect their network.
  • Resolve faults passed by customer Care (generally via email), where they are not able to correct the problems themselves.
  • Generate reports for the Radio Frequency section (RF).
  • Verify generation of RBS alarms for commissioning purpose by Field Engineers.
Testing AND Installation
  • Testing of new products to be marketed.
  • Testing of new handsets and their features to be marketed.
  • Acceptance testing of newly installed network elements.
  • Testing and installation of interconnect circuits.
Training
  • Develop and share a high level of expertise on all nodes with other NOC staff.
  • Conduct in-house technical training programs for members of the NOC staff.
Maintenance of fault database
  1. Maintenance of trouble tickets (TT), Customer Service request (CSR) and Planned Works (PW) database such that;
  • All tickets are correctly filled in with the correct details.
  • All tickets are closed for issues resolved.
  • Data can be extracted in the format needed for the relevant fields requested.
  • Regular backups are made of the database
  • Software scripts, queries and/or reports are manipulated/created at the request of management.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree AND related certification OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of GSM.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical power systems including batteries and generators.
  • Experience in using the UNIX and Windows operating systems, and Intermediate to advanced training in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in and with the mobile telecommunications sector would be considered a valuable asset.
