4. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Biomedical Technician III will report to the Biomedical Technician IV or in accordance with assignment.

5. NATURE & SCOPE

To perform a variety of increasingly complex technical tasks for the installation of medical maintenance and repairs of specialist equipment, clinical accessories and surgical instruments. 

6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Biomedical Technician III would be required to:

• Perform planned preventative maintenance on a wide variety of Biomedical and electrical equipment.
• Perform repairs, calibration, safety testing and installation of biomedical equipment.
  • Monitor equipment in relation to user activities and making recommendations on same.
  • Monitor the duties, coach and mentor the Technicians I and II on the repair and maintenance of equipment, as specialised.  
    • Ensure that the minimisation of downtime of equipment.
    • Ensure that the technical effectiveness of activities are conducted.
    • Ensure the completion of operational goals and objectives are efficiently achieved.  
    • Recommend and implement operational changes.
    • Perform other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

• Physical strength and dexterity to assist with lifting, pushing or handling heavy objects and the ability to work with a variety hand and power tools.
• Ability to work in tight spaces.
• Ability to sit or stand for long time periods.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and programming skills in the applied field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting techniques on biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
  • An understanding of the ethics of hospital practices as well as the hazards and safety considerations to patients and staff.

8.  MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Technology or related field.

                              or

• Advanced Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technician (EEET) or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in the maintenance of biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
  • Proficient in the use of computers with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Any other equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
