4. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Biomedical Technician will report to the Biomedical Technician II or in accordance with assignment.

5. NATURE & SCOPE

To maintain and replace specialist medical equipment, clinical accessories and surgical instruments.

6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Biomedical Technician I would be required to:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance on a wide variety of biomedical and electronic equipment.
  • Assist in the installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment.
  • Assist in monitoring equipment in relation to user activities and filling of reports.
  • Keep accurate records of all time spent on the job.
  • Conduct safety checks on equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

 

7.  KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of International Organisational for Standardisation (ISO).
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret schematic diagrams to perform effective repair and maintenance on basic biomedical equipment.
  • To keep up to date with changes in the engineering environment.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to assist with lifting, pushing or handling heavy objects and the ability to work with a variety hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long time periods.
  • Excellent management skill.
  • Excellent knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and programming skills in the applied field.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting techniques on biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
    • An understanding of the ethics of hospital practices as well as the hazards and safety considerations to patients and staff.

8.  MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Five (5) GCE/CXC O’Level passes; two of which must be English Language and Mathematics, (or Principles of Accounts or Economics).
  • Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technician (EEET).
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in maintenance of biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
    • Certification in Microsoft Office.
    • Any other equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
