The Senior HSE Officer is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s Health, Safety, & Environmental Management System, nurturing the company’s safety culture, and proactively ensuring a safe workplace and workspace for staff and the general public,

The Senior HSE Officer is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s Health, Safety, & Environmental Management System, nurturing the company’s safety culture, and proactively ensuring a safe workplace and workspace for staff and the general public, as legally required defined in the OSH regulations of Trinidad & Tobago. Further, He/she would be required to provide H.S.E. subject-matter-expertise in support of members of the company’s sales team, as required when engaging customers.  Additionally, he/she would be required to support the company’s Business Growth & Development department in developing and managing Health and Safety related services, to develop and expand related revenue streams.  Also, He/She will be responsible for representing the company at meetings with various stakeholders as and when required.

 

  • Develop and implement the organization’s Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System, to ensure compliance with the OSHA requirements of Trinidad & Tobago, and to keep the employees workplace and workspaces free of occupational hazards as is reasonably possible.
  • Conduct HSE training and awareness sessions for staff and the company’s external stakeholders.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and HSE inspections in accordance with local laws and international best practice, to reduce the risk of workplace injury and ill-health, and thereby reducing the likelihood of regulatory action and/or injury people, and/or harm to the environment, and/or damage to company property or equipment.
  • Investigate Accidents/incidents in accordance with department standards and completes reports using the Accident/Incident Report Form, to identify the cause or causes of the accident so that similar accidents can be prevented, thereby assuring a safe workplace for workers, compliance with legal requirements and a reduction in the financial burden associated with accidents.
  • Inspect Safety equipment (fire extinguishers, fire hoses etc.) with the predetermined frequency, to assess functionality and fitness for purpose, thereby minimizing potential damage or loss associated with emergencies.
  • Advise Head of departments of the proper PPE for staff, to decrease severity of injury if an accident occurs.
  • Provide Support and guidance to the departmental managers, to improve Health, Safety and Environmental performance standards in their areas so that the organization meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and ultimately, its business goals.
  • Undertake periodic Toolbox Talk meetings with staff and or customers as required to review and discuss HSE matters, review the risk assessments and to promote healthy discussions on HSE relevant topics.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of the Safety Orientation Training for all workers including Subcontractors and visitors prior to them starting work or visiting the site.
  • Ensure HSE information e.g., policies, procedures, legal requirements, etc. are communicated and disseminated to the relevant stakeholders (employees, dealers, service providers, customers).
  • Develop and Implement an Emergency Response Program.
  • Conduct periodic drills at all company locations.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor.
  • Represent the company in H.S.E. discussions, and ensure that the information presented is accurate, up to date, and of comparable global standards.
  • Support the Corporate Sales team with H.S.E. subject-matter-expertise in meetings with customers.
  • Assist the Business Growth & Development department to identify, establish and offer H.S.E. services to create additional revenue streams for the company.
  • Identify changing H.S.E. trends in P.P.E. that would allow NATCO to stay ahead of its competitors
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with all departments at NATCO to nurture an environment where both internal and external customer service reflects the company’s Strategic Goal of “Customer Centricity.”
  • Address internal and external customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate internal queries or concerns and complaints, to the General Manager to assist in facilitating and ensuring timely win-win resolutions.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain records of the company’s safety equipment (CSE’s) eg. Fire extinguishers.  
  • Maintain the company’s records regarding H.S.E. training, fire drills, and incidents & accidents.  Ensure that all C.S.E’s are always serviceable and within the expiration limits.
  • Responsible for self-development to continuously improve the quality-of-service delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Stay current with global and industry best practices and advancements.
  • Ensuring consistent compliance with all company Policy & Procedures, and maintaining a collaborative, team-based environment, where customer-centricity, and results orientation are key.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc. Degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and the Environment or equivalent and any other related disciplines will be an asset.
  • A NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health, and the Environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the HSE field with two (2) years retail and distribution sector experience.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory (OSH Agency, Environmental Management Agency, Bureau of Standards, Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, Ministry of Health, etc.) requirements.
  • Experience in formulating H.S.E. training curriculums.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
