Our Client, a major stakeholder in the Bauxite Industry,
is in the market for a senior engineering manager with
post-graduate qualifications and a solid track record
of performance, to fill a mission-critical role in the
organization.
JOB SCOPE
Reporting to the General Manager, this position has
oversight for directing all engineering functions and bringing
immediate value to the bottom line through execution of
high value-creation engineering projects.
The Projects, Capital & Engineering Manager:
• Drives the identification and implementation of
Capital & Engineering projects from preliminary
studies, design, construction/installation, review and
operation through to post evaluation.
• Works in conjunction with line managers and work
teams to identify and execute a portfolio of projects
that increase efficiencies, eliminate losses and risks
and provide significant value to the Company.
• Works to eliminate losses and manages risks in order
to facilitate the achievement of the organization's
strategic objectives relating to asset capability, cost,
quality, production and operational efficiency.
• Is responsible for integrating the cost, reliability and
efficiency philosophy and Six Sigma culture
throughout the organization.
• Directs plans and supervises the team of engineering
personnel - providing technical guidance, leadership,
mentorship.
• Prepares and manages the organization's annual and
long term capital budgets.
• Develops and controls engineering operational
procedures. Makes recommendations for system
changes.
• Develops metrics and appropriate data collection
systems to track project performance and assure
timely completion and achievement of improvement
goals.
• Measures and reports on the progress of engineering
projects to ensure that agreed schedules and
budgets are being met. Presents project analysis,
findings, recommendations and updates regarding
capital /engineering projects or continuous
improvement initiatives to appropriate entity or Board
of Directors.
The successful candidate must be the holder of a Post
Graduate Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil
Engineering and must have had a minimum of seven
cumulative years of work experience at a senior
management level in a manufacturing organisation.
Additionally, the successful candidate should possess the
following

• Detailed knowledge of engineering systems, control
and optimization.
• Knowledge of engineering standards (statutory and
mandatory tests) and inspection requirements
• Advanced Project Management Skills
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite including
MS Project, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Strong Technical Writing Skills
• Strong Leadership Skills
• Excellent Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
• Excellent Communication and Negotiation Skills
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in crossfunctional
teams
• Six-Sigma Black Belt Certification (a distinct
advantage).
• Demonstrable competence in the use/application of a
variety of problem solving tool, techniques and
parameters including - Failure Models and Effects
Analysis (FMEA) reliability modeling and predicting,
Six Sigma Methodology, Root Cause Analyses and
Root Cause Failure Analysis.
• The incumbent is required to use quantitative and
qualitative methods to track and project performance
as well as inform decision making. This is inclusive
of recommendations for system changes.
