Position Overview

The Steward will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen operations by maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area and assisting with basic food preparation tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces, including ovens, grills, sinks, and countertops, to ensure a hygienic and safe working environment.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchenware by hand or using commercial dishwashing equipment, following established procedures and standards.
• Empty and clean trash bins and recycling containers, disposing of waste in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling and chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and preparing mise en place, as directed by kitchen staff.
• Stock and replenish supplies in the kitchen and storage areas, including cleaning products, utensils, and disposable items, to support efficient operations.
• Follow proper cleaning and sanitation protocols for handling and storing food products, including raw and cooked items, to prevent contamination and foodborne illness.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff and management to maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen area, including storage rooms and walk-in refrigerators.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment for all staff members.

Key Attributes

• Previous experience as a Steward or similar role in a restaurant, bar or hospitality setting.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy items, standing for extended periods, and working in hot and humid conditions.
• Attention to detail and a focus on cleanliness and sanitation in all aspects of kitchen duties.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicating and collaborating with colleagues to achieve common goals.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the needs of the business.
