Shift Supervisor

Job Summary

To ensure the reliable, efficient and effective operation of the packaging lines to meet or exceed the requirements of internal and external stakeholders.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures as well as governmental and internationally accepted safety standards, and make recommendations on safety issues to the Packaging Superintendent.
  • Ensure that safe work conditions are maintained on the job sites and production floor and constantly improve the awareness and participation of staff in safety-oriented behavior.
  • To maintain and improve quality awareness and standards geared towards internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all finished product conforms to the required quality standards
  • Confers with management to review/establish production and quality standards, and inspects packaging operation to assure conformance to specification.
  • Makes recommendations to the Packaging Superintendent on capital expenditure projects, for inclusion in the annual business plan, and on maintenance and repairs for inclusion in the annual departmental budget
  • Makes recommendations for modifications or improvements to the existing systems and procedures.
  • Development and performance management of subordinate staff while providing effective leadership and ensuring compliance with company policies/procedures
  • Supervise contractors and contracted workers as required
  • Assist Packaging Superintendent in the implementation and improvement of a PM programme for all packaging plant and equipment
  • Ensure the execution of activities as outlined in the Maintenance Programme, assist in performing maintenance duties, and in troubleshooting and timely repairs during equipment breakdown
  • Make recommendations for selecting, installing and commissioning new equipment, designing and implementing new projects, and reengineering plant /equipment
  • Update finished product quantities using ERP system
  • Production of a shift report on the performance of the packaging line, of reports pertaining to the quality (Cost of Quality) as required and reports detailing maintenance work.
  • Liaise with other departments to co-ordinate materials for usage on the packaging line, to co-ordinate maintenance work and with external customers /suppliers as and when necessary
  • Assist Purchasing and Stores in procurement when necessary, provide information on stock/spares requirements and usage in a timely manner, and in providing adequate specifications to ensure that purchased items are of the required quality.
  • To supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in packaging products and materials for storage or shipment, and schedule production runs on the line
  • Study production requirements to determine type and quantity of product, and other packaging requirements.
  • Execute and directs shift production activities and establish priorities in keeping with effective operations.
  • Assist on any committees/groups/task forces that may be formed to deal with specific issues and any other duties/responsibilities that may be assigned by your immediate Supervisor.
  • Ensure changeovers and machine processing time are completed within the specified timeframe
  • Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate health, safety, security and environmental policies/ procedures
  • Perform any other duties as required of the job function

Qualification    

  • Minimum of 5 CXC/GCE O’levels inclusive of Mathematics & English Language

Experience    

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the maintenance and operations of high speed bottling, and associated equipment
  • Or any equivalent experience of qualification and experience

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Supervisory skills
  • Ability to lead work and work as part of a team
