The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) seeks to identify a suitable candidate to fill the following post:  
  
Safety and Emergency Officer - (Temporary) 
  
The Safety and Emergency Officer will provide administrative and operational support relating to the safety portfolio of the Department. Specifically, he/she is responsible for assisting with ensuring compliance with the University rules and ordinances and state regulations relating to safety and to ensure the campus environments and operations are maintained within safety risk levels that are acceptable and conducive to the operations of the university.    
  
Requirements:  
  
The preferred applicant should possess:  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Security Management, or equivalent qualifications
  • Knowledge of the University of Technology, Jamaica Act, 1999, Charter, Statutes, Ordinances, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of workplace and environmental hazards and legislations
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Disaster Prevention, Management, Response & Recovery Procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of workplace safety equipment, gears, and their maintenance
  • Knowledge in potential hazardous materials and practices
  • Working knowledge of the University administrative processes, resources, and safety expectations. 
  • Working knowledge of safety policies development, interpretation, and implementation
  • Good customer service, oral and written communication skills
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in assisting with the administration of Safety Operations will be an asset
