JOB SUMMARY:

The payroll assistant- SVG, under general supervision, processes payroll information in order to ensure accurate, timely payment of employees and ensures that all statutory payments deductions are paid within stipulated deadlines.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processes company payrolls ensuring accurate, timely payment of National Insurance, Pensions, P.A.Y.E, and Group Health & Group Life remittances.  Ensures compliance with current governmental, legal and statutory regulations.
  • Sets up new hires and removes terminated employees form the payroll system.
  • Ensures that employees are registered under the National Insurance and Inland Revenue Department.
  • Collects and enters accurate data including salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, employee and other statutory deductions on the payroll system.
  • Researches and resolves payroll problems and queries.
  • Develops and maintains payroll filing system and related files.
  • Reconciles all salary related accounts including N.I. and PAYE.
  • Journalizes all payroll entries in the general ledger of the accounting system.
  • Inputs net wages for submission to the bank after the approval of the vice president.
  • Prints and distributes pay slips.
  • Extracts TD5 slips and TD5 Summary for Inland Revenue Department. 
  • Processes Education Assistance Contracts, staff loans, garnishments, and reconciles advances and employees’ loan accounts.
  • Prepares documents and composes routine correspondence, as required, on specific policy and procedural issues.
  • Gathers information, conducts basic data analysis, and assists in the development of reports.
  • Updates leave and attendance for all staff in time management of the payroll software.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Essential:

  • Minimum of five (5) CXC CSEC  passes including Mathematics and English
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting or Human Resources will be an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years payroll processing experience
  • CSME Skills Certificate or equivalent (for non-nationals of St. Vincent and the Grenadines)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze informational needs, and provide technical advice and guidance in area of specialty.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Database management skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Sound knowledge of National Insurance and Inland Revenue statutes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of human resources processes, procedures, and documentation, as applicable to a public institution.
  • High level of confidentiality.
