The incumbent will be required to engage in medication management, monitoring and health surveillance, immunization and the general care and treatment of children between 0-18 in a Community Residence. The incumbent will be an integral part of the Care Team responsible for treatment plans.

Suitably qualified applicants are invited to submit an application and résumé for the position (on contract) of:-

NURSING OFFICER

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Secure and maintain records on doctor’s visits, sick children, referrals etc.
  2. Maintain and keep accurate personal medical history of each child.
  3. Conduct preliminary examination of children who complain of illness and assess the need for a medical professional as necessary.
  4. Liaise with and guide the relevant personnel with medical data to aid in developing treatment plans.
  5. Dispense and collect medication as necessary.
  6. Responsible for follow up on referrals made for clinical appointments (e.g. surgical, medical, eye, ENT and other clinics).
  7. Maintain and update the vaccination programme records.
  8. Address all clinical/medical emergencies.
  9. Meet regularly with the Children Home Manager or Deputy Children Home Manager as required, reporting formally at least once bi-weekly and provide a monthly written report.
  10. Manage a health education programme for children i.e. medical advice, personal hygiene as it applies to medication.
  11. Check all dormitories on a daily basis, monitor hygiene generally and at individual levels to ensure environmental sanitation.
  12. Ensure confidentiality of all records.
  13. Maintain medical supplies/equipment and request/order when necessary.
  14. Performs related work as may be required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  1. Must be a Registered Nurse with a minimum of five (5) years mental health experience.
  2. Must satisfy the requirements for Registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
  3. A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated successful leadership in an acute-care hospital environment.
  4. Must possess detailed knowledge of hospital nursing operations.
  5. Must be proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and the public.
  8. Work is performed in accordance with established rules, regulations and standard practices of the profession.
