Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise

The Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development (MOLSMED) is a dynamic government institution that is focused on making Decent Work the platform upon which sustainable development is achieved in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry achieves this goal by striving to: 

• Promote co-operatives as vehicles of national development -Increase the micro and small enterprise sector’s (MSE) contribution to our country’s economic development through the promotion and development of new and existing enterprises.( The  National Integrated Business Incubation System (IBIS), and  Fair Share Programme) -Maximize employment opportunities through its National Employment Service (NES).
• Raise awareness of the work of the HIV/AIDS Advocacy and Sustainability Centre (HASC) to ensure the successful development and implementation of the National Workplace Policy on HIV and AIDS throughout all workplaces in Trinidad and Tobago.
• Provide comprehensive and timely information to address gaps in domestic labour market data.
• Undertake conciliation in all disputes emanating from the public and private sectors with a view of managing conflict and promoting good industrial relations practices through social dialogue and conciliation.
• Educate and advise all employers and employees on their rights and responsibilities and ensure compliance to relevant labour legislation.
• Showcase the development of communities and the virtues of thrift, self reliance and self help through the Friendly Societies Movement.
• Create an Occupational Safety and Health Authority and Agency (OSHA) that is modern, efficient and effective where policies are implemented and enforced.
