Applications are invited from suitably qualified officers to fill one (1) vacant post of Medical Technologist in the Health Authority of Anguilla, West Indies.
The duties of the post are to:
- Examine process and/or analyze body fluids, cells and report in a timely and accurate manner.
- Recognize abnormal or unexpected result in laboratory testing, evaluate, collate and report results in accordance with established protocol.
- Perform, document and interpret as scheduled quality control tests with necessary corrective actions to ensure reliability of patient results.
- Ensure a safe supply of blood and conduct in house donor education and counseling.
- Ensure reagent quality to include storage, expiry dates and valid shelf life.
- Perform and document required preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Participate in proficiency tests in all disciplines and discussions of results.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, and in the development of protocols and techniques.
- Provide relevant advice and information on tests and test procedures to other health care providers and patients/clients as needed.
- Comply with safety procedures for the laboratory in the handling of biological samples, chemicals and equipment.
- Pursue professional growth and development by attending workshops, seminars and other training programmes and participating in the development on in-service training programmes.
- Participate in emergency on-call duty and responds to emergency situations.
- Supervise Laboratory assistant in accordance to his/her job function.
- Maintains high levels of confidentiality with regards to patient information in accordance with laboratory policy.
- Perform other related duties as required by the function.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must possess sound knowledge of the techniques, work methods, theory, principles and practices of the pathology function, the equipment, interpersonal skills, computer skills, communicative, analytical and diagnostic ability and interpretative judgment.
Such knowledges, skills and abilities are normally achieved in the process of acquisition of a Degree in Medical Technology, or a Diploma in Medical Technology from a recognized tertiary institution and completion of the required period of internship or Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists Diploma and at least three years post qualification experience in similar or related job.
