Junior Assistant Accountant

Assists the In-Charge Accountant with the planning and execution on various audit assignments.

KPMG in Jamaica is seeking to hire highly motivated, qualified, sixth form school leavers who have a passion for Accounting, and a strong career interest in becoming Chartered Accountants to join our External Audit practice as Junior Assistant Accountants.

The Early Start Programme is a unique way to enter the business and learn in an accelerated manner, while also pursuing the ACCA qualification. You will have an intense period of training to include technical, and business skills and you will ​start working on diverse and exciting projects soon after. NOTE: This position is NOT for University Students/Graduates or students planning to start University in August 2024. Persons who completed 6th Form prior to 2023 are not eligible. 

Responsibities

• Assists the In-Charge Accountant with the planning and execution on various audit  assignments.
• Audit of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll costs, inventories, bank and cash balances, fixed assets and review of expenses.
• Assisting with special assignments.
• Ensure the adequacy and appropriateness of the work papers.
• Informing the auditor-in-charge/manager about auditing or accounting problems encountered.
• Being alert to and reporting to the auditor in-charge/manager, specific aspects of service which may be of benefit to the client.

Requirements

• RECENT 6th Form graduate or currently pursuing CAPE Level II at a prominent High School 
• 6 CAPE Units including Accounting and Communication Studies
• Minimum 5 CSEC subjects including Grade I or II in English Language, Accounts and Mathematics
• Willingness to aggressively work towards the ACCA qualification
• Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong interpersonal, report writing and communication skills
• Flexible and willing to travel
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
• Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to adapt to a multi-cultural experience
