The Factory Controller provides financial support to the factory to enhance profitability of operations and protects plant assets through the development, implementation and maintenance of the internal control framework.

Purpose of Role:

The incumbent provides financial support to the factory to enhance profitability of operations and protects plant assets through the development, implementation and maintenance of the internal control framework. 

The Factory Controller will develop and maintain planning, budgeting and reporting systems, the preparation of reports, findings and specific recommendations to the factory and Executive management team. He or she serves as the finance business partner to the VP Manufacturing and the factory management team, in providing financial leadership to operations in the planning and execution of business goals and objectives. The candidate will bea key player in making decisions on the performance of the factory operating unit.

 

Key responsibilities:

1. Driving plant profitability and value creation

Leads actions in line with achieving financial targets and mitigating the risk of losses.

Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure that factory financial results are optimised.

Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making.

Provides investment analysis for capital expenditure.

Develops and educates plant personnel on key performance metrics.

 

2. Safeguarding the assets

Responsible for the accuracy of and controls around the plant physical inventory including engineering stores and spares.

Responsible for the safe keeping of the assets of the Plant. They must enforce the control environment to ensure assets are tracked properly and the risk of loss appropriately mitigated through insurance cover.

 

3. Reporting and analysis

Leads financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for the Factory.

Prepares and delivers the plant financial forecasts and projections.

Monitors the plant’s monthly closing process in conjunction with the Accounting team.

Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel.

Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast.

 

4. Financial and Operational Controls

Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal control in place in the factory, including ensuring the  integrity of data in the factory information systems.

Develops and leads the process to ensure that accountability for internal controls is clear and that processes are documented as appropriate.

Interprets, implements and monitors corporate policies and procedures, internal controls and ensures financials are reported in compliance with Group guidelines, generally accepted accounting principles and local statutory requirements.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Professional accounting qualification with between 5 and 10 years’ post-qualification experience.

Conducts himself/herself with the highest ethical and moral standards.

Ability to communicate with and engage employees at all levels of the organization.

Strong financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability accompanied by knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles—understands P&L and balance sheet dynamics.

Demonstrated ability to teach and communicate in simple, impactful terms.

Demonstrated ability to manage and control costs—effectively engages team members at all levels in taking appropriate action.

Highly motivated and results driven with a high energy level—has a bias for proactive action.

Forward thinking leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate, lead by example, and encourage teamwork and effective communication.
