This jobholder is responsible for the efficient implementation and regulation of all of the procedures and requirements outlined under the various permitting processes.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Efficient processing of permit applications within the statutory timeframes;

 

  • Preparation of monthly reports;

 

  • Develop permits, licenses and certificates by reviewing and evaluating environmental impact statements, information acquired from site visits and other informative sources used for determining compliance with established standards, best management practices and policies;

 

  • Maintain records and prepare monthly reports;

 

  • Attend meetings related to all aspects of permit processing;

 

  • Communicate with applicants, stakeholders and other regulators/agencies;

 

  • Conduct site visits in response to permit applications;

 

  • Represent the EMA at various meetings, presentations, and seminars;

 

  • Arrange seminars, technical presentations and other means of information exchange between other agencies, stakeholders and industry groups;

 

  • Assist in the organization and conduct of public consultations by preparing technical details;

 

  • Assist and/or lead technical teams in the implementation of EMA’s work programme;

 

  • Sit on various committees (internal and external);

 

  • Provide technical support to legal department in the review and development of legislation and other legal matters.

 

  • Any other related responsibilities as identified by the Departmental Manager or by the designated Supervisor

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Familiarity with the Laws, Regulations and protocols governing the management of the environment in T&T would be an asset;

 

  • At least two years work experience in the manufacturing, construction or oil related industry or similar industries;

 

  • Graduate from an accredited institution with a first degree in the Physical Sciences, Engineering or Environmental Science AND

     

  • Three years working experience in a position involving environmental compliance, inspection duties and the monitoring of air, water, soil or noise pollution;

     

  • Possession of a motor vehicle license;

 

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

  • Experience in Project Management would be an asset;

 

  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills;

 

  • Ability to multi-task;

 

  • Proficiency in writing;

 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;

 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
