Electrical Engineer

Develop, implement, monitor preventive maintenance and repair programs for electrical, metering protection systems. Includes 69kv substation, 13.8Kv substation (transformer yards), electrical projects, buildings, generators, light pylons, associated distribution

JOB PURPOSE

Responsibility to develop, implement and monitor the preventive maintenance and repair programs for the company’s electrical, metering and protection systems.  This includes 69kv substation, 13.8Kv substation (transformer yards), electrical projects, buildings, generators, light pylons, associated distribution and transmission cables, switch gears, relays, horn pits and reefers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDE:

• Plan/schedule/oversee all electrical projects
• Prepare bid documents, tender evaluation reports, bill of quantities, drawings for all projects
• Prepare monthly/weekly maintenance reports including, but not limited to energy consumption report, contractor PM compliance reports
• Monitor and oversee the standard of work carried out by internal/external contractors to ensure compliance with standards and regulations
• Organize, plan, schedule and oversee electrical maintenance of KFTL’s electrical equipment to include 69kv/13.8kv high voltage substations, Generators, Transformers, Buildings, Reefer Power, High Mast Lights
• Ensure correct material/parts are in place for each activity according to established procurement protocols
• Safeguard the integrity of the data inputted in CHAMPS for electrical works carried out
• Monitor testing of equipment to ensure compliance with specification and safety standards
• Service, repair, deploy, remove and stow away equipment as required
• Provide detailed analysis/research of the performance of electrical systems/components, recommend modifications where necessary and implement solutions identified
• Comply with all disaster contingency plans
• Ensure adherence to established safety practices and the use of HV/MV equipment and machinery

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KEY COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• PMP or other Project Management certification
• Minimum 5 years’ working experience in an industrial environment
• Working knowledge of techniques and methods employed in the maintenance of medium voltage/high voltage switchgear equipment, transformers, standby generator plants, feeder management relays etc.
• Sound knowledge of relevant electrical/electronic engineering systems which include electrical circuits, PLC, control relays and fault diagnostic systems and HV power transmission
• Ability to prepare and interpret technical drawing/sketches
• Sound working knowledge of engineering safety practices
• Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Terminal equipment and tools used in the execution of duties
• Ability to work under pressure, anticipate potential problems, diagnose, evaluate and resolve technical problems as they happen, while maintain continuity of normal workflow
• Effective communication, people management and problem-solving skills.
• Sound knowledge of medium and high voltage relay and equipment associated to switchgear and safety practices.
• Sound knowledge of standby generators, transformers, feeder management relays, Jamaica Electrical Standard, Jamaica Public Service supply and distribution system, Jamaica Public Services substation layout and operational procedures.
• Good knowledge of CHAMPS, Microsoft Suite, Flow Charte. Valid Driver’s Licence
