Job Description: 

 

The Educational Technologist will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students of the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business to support student learning through instructional design and the use of technology. The Educational Technologist will work with faculty and staff on the design and development of instructional content that will be used in blended, and online courses. The Educational Technologist supports faculty, students and staff’s use of instructional technology by planning, coordinating and conducting training workshops, providing support and documentation on the use of instructional technologies as well as conducting research on emerging instructional technologies to achieve the Lok Jack GSB’s strategic goals. The Educational Technologist would also supervise support staff. The position may require evenings and weekends and to work offsite (virtually). This is a full-time position reporting to the Programme Director: Instructional Design and Learning Technologies

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to convert traditional courses to web-facilitated, blended or online courses to be offered either synchronously or asynchronously or both.
  • Guide and support faculty in the best practices for teaching and learning through online and technology enriched courses.
  • Actively monitor, assess, and evaluate developed courses and assist in the revision of courses.
  • Assist in the development of assessment measures to evaluate the effectiveness of design approaches.
  • Integrate technologies that are online-learner focused, foster student engagement, active learning, digital scholarship, and collaboration.
  • Research to identify possible applications, evaluate and implement current and emerging instructional technologies.
  • Monitor and keep up to date with emerging technology and trends in online and hybrid instructional design, asynchronous teaching and learning, and the mobile learning.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff or relevant departments to convert or design, development and rollout of blended and online courses.
  • Plan, design, develop and deliver instructional design and technology training sessions and workshops for faculty, staff and students.
  • Work with a wide range of multimedia software including, audio, video, web, animation, and photo to develop materials for online and blended courses.
  • Develop instructional web and media-based interactive learning objects (tutorials, demos, training modules, assessments, courses and content etc).
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the department's web presence.
  • Troubleshoot technical course design issues with faculty.
  • Support GSB’s Learning Management System and Virtual Classroom / Web Conferencing Platform.
  • Collaborate with the relevant departments with regards to plan and implement various eLearning or instructional technology projects.
  • Design and develop print, video and web based user documentation and training material.
  • Supervise Educational Technology Support Officers and oversee support.
  • Provide level 2 technical support.
  • Coordinate with and train level 1 support personnel.
  • Provide support for faculty using the School’s LMS and virtual Classroom platform.
  • Participates in activities to stay informed about trends in instructional technology, in specific disciplines and across academia.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Training and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related field. Alternatively, Graduate certification in Instructional Systems Technology with at least 2 years of practical experience in instructional design and training at the higher education level and at least 3 years experience supporting Learning Management Systems. A Master's degree in Instructional Systems Technology or related field is preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years' experience in supporting the use of eLearning and instructional technologies at a higher education level.
  • Experience training users individually and within a group setting.
  • Experience using of the Moodle Learning Management System, Blackboard Collaborate and other instructional technologies.
  • In-depth and demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with Moodle, carrying out administrative functions in Moodle such as creating course shells and establishing accounts and passwords, and providing both technical and functional support to end users.
  • Experience using web and media based technologies for education such as but not limited to Camtasia, Google Docs, Voicethread, Adobe Creative Suite, Plagiarism Detection, Clickers, Quiz Creation tools, Survey tools and Audacity.

Skills & Abilities

 

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher.
  • Ability to work with and train in both a PC and Macintosh environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Web-based instructional and editing software, presentation packages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of copyright, fair use, and instructional delivery and intellectual property.
  • Ability to coordinate and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks, and work in a dynamic and fluid environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff and develop innovative solutions to instructional problems.

  • Ability to understand and present complex technical issues.

  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional design methodologies and adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of online course development standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of learning technologies and pedagogical strategies specific to blended and online learning and their application to university instruction.
  • Strong background in effective instructional technology and technology-mediated course design.
