We're hiring a Cost Accountant

The Cost Accountant is responsible for planning, collecting, auditing, and analyzing financial data to determine the cost of business activity and will be responsible for providing the Financial Controller with information to make inform decision on product costing, product manufacturing analysis, inventory valuation, gross profit margins, recommending corrective measures on unprofitable products being sold by the company and assist with the preparation of annual budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze changes in the cost of raw and packaging material and any related cost with the aim of determining what effect it will have on the cost of products, and make recommendations to the Financial Controller, and other related Managers.
  •  
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard cost to actual production cost and recommend corrective measures.
  •  
  • Assist the Business Development Manager, New Product Officer, Marketing Manager, and Export Manager with cost and profitable margins of new products.
  •  
  • Planning, evaluating, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labour.
  •  
  • Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided to determine effect on cost and margins.
  •  
  • Provide the Financial Controller with a monthly report on factors that affect prices and profitability of products and recommend correction where necessary.
  •  
  • Routinely analyze production over-head cost and labour cost and recommend corrective measures.
  •  
  • Assist the Financial Controller in analyzing the monthly expense report and recommend areas for cost saving.
  •  
  • Assist the Financial Controller in developing, documenting policies and procedures, including system requirements and internal controls relating to inventory.
  •  
  • Daily processing of consumptions journals of raw and packaging material for each product as stipulated on production orders.
  •  
  • Ensuring all related costs are associated with the relevant product before they are sold to customers.
  •  
  •  Assist in the supervision and coordination of the monthly, quarterly, and annual stock count.
  •  
  • Maintain Cost Accounting System.
  •  
  • Monitor physical stock valuation to ensure that the correct unit prices and balances are captured and that the ultimate composite valuation reflects a true and fair view of the overall inventory items on hand.
  •  
  • Represent the Financial Controller at New Product Development Meetings in seeing to the formulation of profitable products.

STANDARDS:

  • Operate by applicable SOPs, GMP, HACCP, and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Ensure that the Company’s products are sold at the required Gross Profit Margin.
  • Ensure all products are costed correctly.
  • Stock variance reports are completed by the 15th of each month.

AUTHORITY:
Ensure all products are sold at the required profit margin. This means requesting and analyzing data in the execution of this critical function.      
        

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:             

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration or ACCA II or equivalent
  • 3 - 5 years experience in a similar capacity
  •  

Specific Knowledge:                 

  • Cost and Financial Accounting
  • ERP System
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  •  

Required Skills:                 

  • Expertise in costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products
  • Proven time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines
  • Respect for the confidentiality of information laws and local ethics
  • Computer literacy skills, especially with MS Excel, EPR System, and IT
