Following the decision to close the naval base and hand over the peninsula to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 1967, the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) was, by an Act of Parliament in 1972, established to administer the area.

Under the CDA Act (Chap: 35:02), the CDA is vested with all the lands of the northwest peninsula including the offshore Islands. Under Section 14 of the same Act, the CDA has it's principal function the development of the North-West order. And, to ensure that such development is carried out in conformity with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Act (Chap 35:01).

Strategic Development

In concert with Government's Medium Term Policy Framework, the CDA is now pursuing a direction that will satisfy the objectives of the growth and diversification of it productive base.

With the CDA's new prospective, it is projected that by pressing standing, wasting assets into active service, the CDA can become a more vibrant and pro-active facilitator, partner and landlord.
