Job Summary

The Broadcast Engineering Technician generally performs work related to the functioning of the Outside Broadcast Production Vehicle operations and maintenance. Monitors and ensures that the transmission and recording of TV signals are in accordance with local and internationally accepted standards and protocols. 

Primary Duties and Functions

  • Installs and test of new equipment in the OB vehicles;
  • Performs both preventative and breakdown maintenance on all TV broadcasting equipment in the OB vehicles at least 48 hours in advance of an OB assignment;
  • Maintains existing broadcasting capabilities and providing timely solutions to problems that may arise in both the RF and Video/Audio transmission system and other related equipment;
  • Sets up microwave transmission equipment in a timely manner to facilitate live programming of News and/or Production events from remote locations;
  • Sets up and performing alignment procedures of all Outside Broadcast equipment as required;
  • Ensures all ancillary equipment in support of the outside broadcast activities are setup and operational;
  • Maintains the safety of all equipment under his/her control;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Experience and General Requirements

  • Technician Degree in Television Broadcasting Electronics or Advance Electronics from a recognized institution.
  • “O” Level  and/or “A” Level passes in Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and English
  • Certificate in Information Technology (Operations and Maintenance)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in using TV Electronic Test equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair TV broadcasting equipment at all levels, including Studio, Microwave and Transmitters
  • Ability to analyze and solve technical problems in a creative way especially on Outside Broadcast assignments.
  • Must own a valid Heavy-T licence or Extra Heavy-T driver’s licence.
  • Ability to prepare reports as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive proficiency of PC based computer systems. Solid working knowledge of analog and digital post production equipment, and file based work flow.
  • Must demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the principles and theory of electronics and theory of television broadcast technology.
  • Ability to solve problems, and work with minimum supervision.
