A dynamic organization in the General Insurance industry is seeking to fill the position of Team Leader for the Savanna-L-Mar branch. The incumbent supervises coaches, supports and delegates all Underwriting functions for his/her team.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Effectively supervise, direct and coordinate underwriting personnel, activities and functions within the team to meet underwriting objectives.
  • Manage a competent and motivated staff of  underwriters, including monitoring of individual and team performance and providing guidance. This will include delivering periodic performance reviews for team members as required.
  • Provide exceptional service to external and internal customers and act as a resource within the company and a role model.
  • Coordinate activities and work flow to assure accurate and timely response to agents and clients as needed.
  • Monitor team workload and provide feedback through reports on quality and overall team performance.
  • Present team productivity and other business reports periodically as required.
  • Manage other teams as required in the absence of other Underwriting Team Leaders.
  • Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines.
  • Authorise and sign policy documents and endorsements within assigned limits.
  • Manage processing of business for and maintain excellent business relationships with assigned intermediaries.
  • Facilitate activities with other areas of the company to ensure maximum efficiencies in service delivery to intermediaries and customers.
  • Use underwriting knowledge to develop, implement and review underwriting policies, always working toward increasing profitable production.
  • Ensure exceptions are denied where appropriate, or recommend approval if required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary level education e.g. First Degree in Management Studies or related discipline;
  • Diploma in Insurance;
  • Supervisory Management Certification;
  • Three (3) years of successful general insurance underwriting experience;
  • Three (3) years of experience in motor underwriting;
  • Knowledge of underwriting and rating principles, theory and application;
  • Knowledge of rating, forms and underwriting requirements for the company’s lines of insurance.

  • Highly competent in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office applications.
