Assistant Warehouse Manager

JOB SUMMARY

To ensure conduct and standards of the operations of the warehouse are maintained.

 AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Coordinate the daily start up functions of the warehouse operations and arrange, control and supervise the dispatching operations on mornings
  • Liaise with the Customs Department on a daily basis to obtain weekly and daily container delivery schedules and determine placement of containers upon arrival onto compound
  • Determine workflow of receiving crew. Assign duties to team members and manage the weekly work plan
  • Provide information to Sales and Marketing when necessary regarding timing of containers to be offloaded
  • Ensure timely and efficient offloading of containers arriving onto compound, in adherence of priority established by Purchasing Officer
  • Examine items of stock received for damages, leaks or other inconsistencies
  • Report in a timely manner, any discrepancies in quality to the relevant personnel
  • Compile inventories of items received for storage and select appropriate storage areas
  • Liaise with haulage contractors for removal of empty containers
  • Conduct on a daily basis picking operations for relocating stock items to lower levels, rotating items according to expiry
  • Inspect on a daily basis, the warehouse for the purpose of examining items of stock in storage for damages, leaks, dangerous storage practices
  • Monitor stock levels and highlight any obvious anomalies to Warehouse Manager (e.g. situations of grave overstock, unusually fast moving product etc.)
  • Undertake appropriate procedures to protect the company’s interest in the storage of commodities
  • Check damaged goods received form salesmen and delivery drivers and ensure proper storage of damaged goods
  • Ensure appropriate paper work is completed to allow destruction of bad goods
  • Provide inputs to planning, directing and coordinating the general policies of the warehouse
  • Review the operations of the warehouse and report to the Warehouse Manager
  • Collate invoices into bonds and supervise the bond assembly process, including checking quantities once assembled and assigning storage areas for each bond
  • Ensure the efficient use of the company’s resources by the effective deployments of warehouse staff, checking time cards and staff attendance
  • Oversee the application of work safety and related procedures for staff and company vehicles
  • Liaise with Delivery Clerks, Billing and Sales on a regular basis during the day to ensure that all information impacting on daily operations is received in a timely manner
  • Undertake appropriate procedures to protect the company’s interest in the storage of commodities
  • Supervise the deployment of Porters, truck drivers, casual employees and other General workers assigned to warehouse operations
  • Be available in the event of a national disaster
  • Perform other related duties as required by the job function

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree in Management or any other related field
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of warehouse operations and logistics
  • 3-5 years working experience
