TITLE: Assistant Accountant
REPORTS TO :Accountant
SUPERVISES : Fixed Assets Clerk, Journal Processing/Reconciliation Clerk/Stores/Inventory Clerk, Bank Reconciliation Clerk.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepares journals, financial statements and reports; prepare statutory payments for external agencies.
• Prepares schedules and other financial reports; prepare vouchers for transfer to accounts.
• Monitors the accounts of all branches and coordinates submissions for auditing purposes.
• Assists in preparation of management accounts monthly.
• Updates branch accounts and profit centers, sign cheques and return cheques.
• Keeps schedule of staff attendance/punctuality, approves leave forms for all staff under supervision.
•Prepares yearly vacation schedule for staff under supervision.
• Completes and approves appraisals for staff under purview – bi-annually and annually.
• Reviews and monitors the maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register. Reviews, verifies and signs all journals.
• Reviews, verifies and sign all schedules and journals, verifies and signs Bank Reconciliation (RBL)
• Reviews, verifies and signs journals, stock usage claim forms, stock requisitions.
• Reviews, verifies and signs all bank reconciliation, local foreign and bureaus.
• Supervises staff.
OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attending meetings with department heads.
• Makes recommendations with respect to improvements and efficiency of the department.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
• Training as evidenced by completion of Level II ACCA. A minimum of five (5) CXC/GCE O’ Levels including Principles of Accounts, Mathematics and English.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a computerized accounting environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
• Good interpersonal skills
• Possess strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Strong knowledge and experience of fixed assets and General Ledger
• Proficient in Excel
• Strong ability to apply several accounting and reporting systems.
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Strong ability to work individually or in a team setting
