Accounting Clerk

Job Description:

The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for assisting with various accounting and financial tasks, primarily focusing on accounts payable functions. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process invoices received from vendors accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents to ensure accuracy of billing and pricing.
  • Verify the validity of invoices and resolve any discrepancies with vendors or internal departments.
  • Prepare and process payments to vendors via checks, wire transfers, or electronic payment systems.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and maintain vendor files and records.
  • Assist in month-end closing activities, including preparing accruals and reconciling accounts payable sub-ledger to the general ledger.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and address any issues or concerns in a professional manner.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports and analysis as needed.
  • Support the accounting team with other ad-hoc tasks and projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel,
  • Experience with accounting software (NetSuite)- advantageous but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Jamaican accounting standards and regulations is a plus.
  • Professional certification such as ACCA or CAT is advantageous but not required.
