Job Summary:
The Assistant Accountant supports the Chief Financial Officer and the organization by preparing financial statements, budgets, and other accounting reports. As a practitioner, he/she is expected to keep current with accounting practice updates and ensure good governance within the Sector.
Job Description:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
To monitor Executive dashboards on CDK daily to detect any anomalies. Once detected, anomalies are to be addressed within one working day.
To prepare Financial and Managerial Accounts as per the established schedule and as requested by the Management/Executive.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and accruals.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support decision-making processes.
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and customer invoicing.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
Stay current with accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Ensure all HSSE policies and procedures are strictly enforced and adhered to at all times.
Maintain a clean, tidy, safe, and presentable working environment, ensuring that housekeeping is maintained, and security procedures enforced resulting in a safe and attractive work environment for customers and staff.
To perform duties which may be related to, but not included in the above as requested by Management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Awareness of business trends.
Familiarity with financial accounting statements.
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
Hands-on experience with accounting software packages.
Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant.
Relevant certification (e.g. ACCA) will be preferred.
