Accountant – Regulatory Reporting

 

Position Summary:

This position exists to provide support to the Chief Financial Officer in carrying out all regulatory reporting compliance functions and ensures the accurate and timely preparation of regulatory reports to regulators in accordance with statutory requirements. This position acts as a primary Accountant for a subsidiary within the group and consequently contributes to the efficient financial management of the company’s operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of Financial Services Commission (FSC) weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual returns, ensuring they are complete, accurate and filed within deadlines.
  • Prepare JSE, Development Bank of Jamaica (DBoJ) reports and other statutory returns, ensuring accurate and timely filings.
  • Calculate capital adequacy requirements, ensuring adherence to regulators’ requirements and advising senior management of any early warning signs.
  • Prepare daily, monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Prepare debt covenant and similar reporting.
  • Adhere to the quality control guidelines established for the Unit.
  • Respond to requests from external and internal customers in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining quality records management of all assigned regulatory returns electronically.
  • Review regulatory reports, bank reconciliations and audit schedules prepared by junior staff.
  • Prepare audit schedules and key reconciliations.
  • Assist in the timely completion of annual financial audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Supervise and train junior team members.

   

Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience & Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounts, level II of ACCA or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting (of which one should be in a financial institution)
  • Working knowledge and experience in preparing financial statements, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Financial Institutions, Securities and other relevant Acts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Spreadsheet applications and Power Point.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Strong analytical, statistical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven supervisory skills as well as initiative in meeting established targets with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
