The Department of Community Rehabilitation invites applications for the position of:
PROBATION OFFICER I (x2)
Salary: $62,508 - $84,036 per annum

The Department of Community Rehabilitation is responsible for the supervision and rehabilitation of adult offenders in the Cayman Islands. Probation Officers are responsible for working directly with adult offenders and their families, as well as various partnering agencies such as the Courts, Health Services Authority, Mental Health Services, Department of Counseling Service, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Her Majesty's Cayman Islands Prison Services; with the aim of protecting the public, reducing the level of offending behaviours and helping offenders to become more responsible citizens.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: -
• Prepare and present Reports (such as Pre-sentencing and Case Status Reports) on adult offenders as requested by the Courts in a timely manner
• Supervise and monitor offenders to ensure compliance with the conditions of Conditional Release Licenses, Court Orders, and bail conditions or bonds
• Conduct risk/need assessments on all clients to determine the level of risk of re-offending, the needs of the clients and appropriate intervention services for clients
• Develop and implement rehabilitation/intervention/diversion programmes to address identified clients' needs
• Maintain manageable caseloads and ensure that electronic and physical case management records and statistical data are always up-to-date and accessible
• Liaise with internal and external agencies and other resources to advocate for clients and make appropriate referrals
• Participate in Court and Office Duty, which involves supporting and responding to Magistrates/ Judges/Prosecutors
• Management of all other requirements as outlined in the Job Description.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: -

• A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology from an accredited University; plus at least five (5) years of relevant working experience in a similar service-providing agency
• Observation and experience of Courtroom procedures and ordinances relevant to probation work
• Research and study of the local laws that pertain directly and indirectly to the services provided by the DCR
• Application of principles, practices and techniques of case investigation, report writing, assessment and case planning
• Observation of and interaction with client supervision under professional guidance within a probation office, parole office or correctional facility
• Actual case work and supervision in a probation office, parole office or correctional facility
• Ability to develop, implement and facilitate evidence-based programmes and group work
• Experience and knowledge of behavioral patterns, including offending behaviors, criminality, substance abuse, mental health issues, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in English
• Computer skills for standard Microsoft suite and case management database
