Officer, Film Animation & Music (FAM)
Job Scope
- To support the promotion of Jamaica as a business destination, as well as a source for goods and services
- To support the implementation of programmes and initiatives that drive economic development and growth; and engage and convert investment, linkages and export opportunities in keeping with agreed targets; in the Film, Animation, and Music sectors of the Creative Industries
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform duties as necessary to effectively carry out their role. These include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide administrative support for the Film Animation Music (FAM) department/ Film Commission including, but not limited to
- Coordinate appointments with the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as required, and develop required collateral for meetings
- Prepare reports, project documents, and presentations as required
- Coordinate logistical arrangements as required for meetings, seminars, workshops etc as required
- Provide supervision for the comprehensive facilitation services for all filmmakers and producers for film production in Jamaica including, but not limited to:
- Film registrations/licensing, bond waiver applications, productive input relief applications, and any other special permit applications for productions facilitated by the Unit
- Liaison with government ministries, agencies, private sector companies and production teams to facilitate smooth operations while on the island
- Site visits as needed with partner agencies and stakeholders to assigned clients and fulfil information requests as required, and/or conduct on-set production facilitation
- Annual calendar for the FAM department to include production facilitation and local and international events and activities in the FAM sectors
- Maintenance of excellent client service relationships with industry stakeholders and practitioners, including troubleshooting permit/licensing and location issues during production
- Support the implementation of sector development initiatives to drive growth in the FAM sectors including but not limited to:
- Provide administrative support in managing a portfolio of sector development initiatives that facilitate sustainable development and economic growth
- Support in developing FAM sector roadmaps to improve the business environment and facilitate sustainable development and economic growth
- Provide administrative support in managing a portfolio of investment and export projects
- Keep abreast of developments in local and foreign markets to guide the development of new initiatives
- Provide excellent client service to industry representatives, potential business partners, and stakeholders in local, regional, and international markets
- Ensure appropriate lead progression details and client records are updated in the KM system
- Update strategic client and stakeholder databases within assigned portfolio.
- Liaise with the relevant departments within JAMPRO, as well as the ministries, departments & agencies to aid in advancing projects, missions, and initiatives
- Attend meetings as required, document meeting proceedings, prepare and disseminate meeting notes and action items
- Provide administrative support to project teams and other committees reporting to the Manager, and carry out follow-up activities in respect of projects managed by the FAM Department
- Receive and respond to telephone, email, and walk-in enquiries as required
- Assist in the planning, execution, and monitoring of inward and outward missions, trade events/activities, programmes, workshops, conferences, events, match-making events, and any other sector development activity
- Participate in the preparation of policy documents, cabinet submissions, project packaging and other cross-departmental projects
- Support the development and implementation of innovative sales and promotional strategies to drive investment, linkages, and export leads in Jamaica’s FAM sectors, including but not limited to:
- Provide administrative support for the delivery of local and overseas missions, projects, workshops, events, match-making events, trade shows and initiatives, and make logistical arrangements as required
- Provide research support in focus sector, or for clients, as required
- Draft technical documents, briefs, presentations, and similar documents
- Represent JAMPRO at local and international client or stakeholder meetings and other fora
- Perform other related functions as assigned by Manager
Qualifications, Experience and Key Competencies
- Undergraduate Degree (BA / BSc) in Arts Management, Film Production, Film Studies, Entertainment Management, Cultural Studies, Business, Media/Communications, Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, Marketing/PR or related discipline
- At least three (3) year’s work experience in Cultural and Creative Industries or Media/Entertainment. Experience in project management, sales and marketing, or program coordination is an asset
- Awareness of the Creative Industries within Jamaica and the region. Awareness of international trade requirements, incentive regime, and public policy is an asset
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programmes
- Excellent customer service and relationship management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent rapport with team members and clients and inspire confidence and trust
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, public-speaking/presentation)
- Competent problem-solving skills
- Competent qualitative and quantitative research skills
- Proven capacity for multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and working on own initiative
