NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
This position is accountable to the Loans Officer/Branch Supervisor and is responsible for the processing of deposits and the pay out of funds in accordance with the Credit Union’s policies and procedures, also, to record all transactions accurately and balance each day’s activities.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES/MAJOR TASKS
The Teller is accountable for the following end results:
- Count cash balances at the beginning of the shift and balances cash and cheques against computer records at the end of the shift.
- Receives cash and cheques for deposit, verifies amounts and check endorsements. Examine cash carefully to guard against acceptance of counterfeit bills.
- Process members’ withdrawals after verifying identification and checking account balances in accordance with Credit Union policy.
- Attend promptly and efficiently to all members in the queue.
- Enter transactions into computer and issues member receipts.
- Complete end of day balancing within 30 minutes after the last member.
- Maintains members’ confidence and protects JPCCU operations by keeping information confidential.
- Batch all receipts/vouchers on end of day report and have report ready for end of day audit.
- Efficiently explains Credit Union services and charges to members.
- Observes suspicious behaviour and reports any such activity to the Branch Supervisor/Branch Manager.
- Directs members to Member Service Representative or other department as required for additional services.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Substitutes as needed for Member Service Representative during lunches and short breaks.
- Assist Branch Manager in the administration of the money laundering policy by prompt reporting of unusual transactions.
- Be punctual at work daily. Prepare workstation with required tools at least 5 minutes prior to operating time.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must possess good written and verbal communication skills; should be a High School graduate with at least 5 passes in CXC/GCE inclusive of Mathematics/Accounts and English. The incumbent must also be computer literate.
