Job description Education specialist (Teacher Trainer) – Special Needs Interventions at EC2

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Intervention Specialist/ Teacher Trainer to join our team. This is a newly created position, offering a unique opportunity to shape and develop the role in close collaboration with colleagues and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate is passionate about inclusive education, capable of designing and implementing effective interventions, and experienced in supporting teachers’ professional growth.

Role Overview:
 The Teacher Trainer supports teachers in developing and implementing effective interventions for children with special educational needs (SEN). This role combines observation, coaching, planning, and research, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based, individualized, and aligned with best practices. The Teacher Trainer acts as a bridge between EC2 specialists, teachers, and students fostering communication and collaboration to optimize student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Observation & Assessment:

  • Observe classroom practices and student behavior to identify needs and opportunities for intervention.
    • Provide constructive feedback to teachers on intervention strategies and classroom management techniques.

Intervention Design & Implementation:

  • Assist teachers in designing, adapting, and implementing interventions tailored to individual students.
  • Support teachers in practicing and refining intervention strategies through coaching and modeling.

Coaching & Professional Development:

  • Maintain a clear distinction between coaching competencies and teaching skills.
    • Provide ongoing mentoring to teachers, emphasizing skill development and reflective practice.
    • Support teachers in developing self-efficacy and confidence in intervention delivery.

 

Research & Knowledge Management:

  • Keep up to date with the latest literature, research, and best practices in special needs education. Disseminate relevant findings and recommendations to teachers and school staff.

 

Planning & Coordination:

  • Assist in planning intervention schedules, progress monitoring, and follow-up activities.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, counselors, and external specialists.

 

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Serve as a liaison between EC2 specialists and teachers, and students to ensure a shared understanding of interventions.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and discussions for staff (and parents) when needed.

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Relevant master’s degree in education, special pedagogy or behavior sciences;
  • Has knowledge of the current student care system on Saba, or will comply with it shortly
  • Willing to apply a result-oriented approach and handelingsgericht werken; evidence-based intervention strategies for children with SEN
    • Proven experience in special needs education, teaching, or teacher training and providing constructive feedback.
    • Ability to bridge communication between teachers, students, EC2 colleagues and parents.
    • Strong organizational, planning, and coordination skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal abilities.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with educational research.

Details

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week) (part time can be discussed)
    • Salary scale OOP BES (Onderwijs Ondersteunend Personeel BES): Depending on experience, Scale 10 or 11
    • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) with an educational profile and references will be required
    • One-year contract, with a possibility of extension based on a positive review and availability of funding.
