The Attorney General’s Chambers invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Principal Crown Counsel.
MANDATE
To assist in the management of the workings of the Criminal Team within the Legal Department, ensuring that the aims and objectives, as set out in the Business Plan, are fulfilled. This will involve, but not be limited to, representing the Crown and Commissioner of Police in prosecutions and appeals from criminal matters, advising upon and conducting forfeiture applications, assisting with MLAT and extradition requests and advising the Royal Anguilla Police Force in connection with investigations and prosecutions.

The post holder is authorised to:
(i) Assist with the management of the workings of the Criminal Team, under the supervision and
guidance of Principal Crown Counsel (Criminal Division).
(ii) Liaise with HE the Governor, Commissioner of Police and Head of FIU.
(iii) Represent the Crown and Commissioner of Police in criminal prosecutions and appeals.
(iv) Represent the Crown in claims against Government.
(v) Assist the Attorney General with MLAT and extradition requests.
PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS
(i) Compliance with the goals of the Legal Department.
(ii) Compliance with the aims and objectives of the Criminal Division.
(iii) Compliance with personal objectives.
(iv) Extent to which Code for Prosecutors has been properly applied.
SCOPE OF THE JOB
The job carries responsibility as a senior member of the Criminal Team in the Attorney General’s Chambers. It also offers the scope of assisting with the reform and development of criminal legislation, practice and procedure.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must possess a sound knowledge of criminal law and the ability to deal with new legal precedents and unique challenges. Good advocacy skills, some managerial and leadership competencies, resilience, together with the ability to speak with authority and confidence are essential.
The incumbent should be an Attorney-at-Law with ordinarily at least seven (7) years post qualification experience in a similar or related job.
