The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the Day-to-Day operations of the Maintenance Department and team and will continuously seek and implement changes to maintenance processes for improved safety, quality, and productivity.

 

Summary of duties

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the Day-to-Day operations of the Maintenance Department and team and will continuously seek and implement changes to maintenance processes for improved safety, quality, and productivity.

You must have experience working on large industrial machinery and have developed practical experience and technical mastery in the technology or process as per predefined qualification criteria allowing him/her to be already a resource at our company. He/she will schedule and monitor the implementation of appropriate maintenance programs and schedules for the company’s plant, building and equipment to maximize production equipment uptime. He/she will perform maintenance duties to include, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, automated equipment repair, pump repair, plumbing, safety inspections, and equipment preventive / predictive maintenance.

In this role, you will be a servant leader impacting the development of your team by providing training and coaching to ensure adherence to preferred maintenance practices to maximize efficiency and safety.

You must be available to work a flexible shift to include weekends, public holidays and over night when required.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance duties to include, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, automated equipment repair, pump repair, plumbing, safety inspections, and equipment preventive / predictive maintenance.
  • Initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program base on best practices in the manufacturing industry and or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements, with an emphasis on planning /scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the preventive maintenance program to minimize plant breakdowns due to failure of systems and to update inspections and frequencies to best meet the goal of 100% reliability.
  • Inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective actions/repairs in all the trade levels.
  • Interpret, apply, and explain complex codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency site maintenance requests with a sense of urgency.
  • Inspect and evaluate the facility external and internal infrastructure to prevent failure and/ or degradation of fix assets.
  • Create and maintain a maintenance management system for tracking work request, spare parts inventory and maintenance history of plant equipment and building repairs etc.
  • Assist in development of disaster response protocols.
  • Inspect tools, equipment, or machines.
  • Supervise contracted tradesmen (electrician, plumber, mason etc.) during installations, repairs or general maintenance of plant and equipment to ensure that work is done on time, within budget and according to specifications.
  • Reviews maintenance procedures to ensure our methods are documented and performed to meet industry and departmental standards. 
  • Lead the maintenance mechanic team with a positive attitude and strong sense of urgency.
  • Oversee maintenance staff to ensure department activities are performed on time, according to specifications and areas are properly maintained
  • Conduct random inspections to review work in progress and review completed site work to verify compliance in accordance with applicable plans, procedures, and all governing codes.
  • Quickly assist maintenance mechanics when called upon.
  • Facilitate technical and safety training, as well as help to develop professional development of maintenance associates.
  • Increase Team Member knowledge and skills to identify root cause problem solving and make effective repairs that result in less downtime
  • Ensure personnel follow all GMP and safety policies.
  • Own and promote excellent housekeeping.

Qualification and Experience

  • A completed Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) from an accredited university
  • Technical, vocational or trade school graduate or equivalent.
  • Five (5) or more years of previous maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Two years’ experience in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills with a strong understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers, PLC Networking, Hydraulics operation and repair
  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Experience leading a team in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Understanding of maintenance, preventive maintenance & plant process
  • Experience in food safety processes and procedures
  • Continuous Improvement Process & Root Cause Analysis experience a definite advantage

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to manage, train and motivate subordinate employees to attain stated goals and objectives.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) at an intermediate level.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency in completing tasks and comfort working in a high-speed production environment
  • Ability to work independently or with a team and communicate effectively
    Solid problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to coach and train others.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills with hands-on experience and a solid understanding of equipment utilized in a food manufacturing plant.
  • Effectively balance workload and backlog by efficiently assigning tasks to team while assuring quality work is being completed in a safe manner.
  • Able to observe, collect, analyze, and summarizing data and trends that aide in the reliability and optimization of equipment and processes.
  • Great communication skills with the ability to adjust communication style and interact across all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized with great time management to manage multiple priorities successfully.
  • Management knowledge and have a strong grasp of cost drivers, vendor choices, planning, scheduling.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Good teamwork and team building skills.
