ASSISTANT MECHANIC

Applications are invited for the post of ASSISTANT MECHANIC.

SALARY: $2,138,653.02 per annum

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of marine engines, generators and mechanical equipment, through accurate diagnosis of problems and administer efficient repair. The incumbent will be required to support the Mechanic in the execution of duties including but not limited to diagnosing, repairing and maintaining all diesel and other engines, generators, transmissions, outboard engines, steering systems of the work boats and other mechanical equipment .

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • UTECH Diploma in Mechanical Engineering     OR
  • HEART Trust NTA/JAGAS Level 3 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Repairs    PLUS
  •  Two (2) years’ experience working on diesel engines and transmissions

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of the operation of diesel engines, GM, Allison and other engines; transmissions, twin disc, ZF, and other gearboxes
  • Basic maintenance
  • Skills: Mechanical skills, troubleshoot and solve machinery problems, use specialised tools of the trade, analytical/problem-solving, time management, read and interpret workshop manuals

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety and care of tools assigned.
  • Carry out overhaul on engines as required.
  • Request spare parts to complete repairs and overhaul of engines.
  • Assist in repairing motor vessels as required.
  • Maintain generating plants and related equipment at the outports.
  • Assist in or carry out maintenance of the navigational aids.
  • Ensure servicing, repairs and safe operation of machinery and equipment at all times.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safety practices to prevent injury to others.
  • Keep vessel(s) engine rooms in a clean condition.
  • Provide reports on machinery as required.
  • Prepare work orders.
  • Carrying out basic electrical work as necessary
