TITLE:                   Senior Accounting Assistant

REPORTS TO:   Financial Reporting and Analysis Manager

LOCATION:        Head Office, Chaguanas

TYPE:                 Full Time, Permanent

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Financial Reporting & Analysis Manager (F.R.A.M.), the Senior Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the accurate recording and reconciliation of accounting data in a timely and efficient manner across various companies within the Excellent Group inclusive of the St. Lucian entities. He/She will be responsible for ensuring specific aspects of the accounting records and tax compliance are managed with accuracy and completeness in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of proper accounting practices. He/She will provide support to the F.R.A.M. in the fulfilling of their mandate of the preparation of Group Consolidated Financial Statements. This entails a variety of activities that include but are not limited to reconciliations of the companies’ banks, intercompany transactions and vendors.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Accounting

  • Update and maintain the Company’s fixed asset registers.
  • Investigate accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Reconcile accounts payables, accounts receivables and inventory sub ledgers to general ledgers.
  • Assist the F.R.A.M in ensuring proper month-end and close-off of accounts payables and accounts receivables.
  • Review and reconcile all credit card entries in order to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and enter other journal entries as required.
  • Accurately record and reconcile intercompany trade and financing transactions.
  • Billing of Management fees, Licence and Commission fees.

 

Cash and Bank

  • Conduct bank reconciliation with all general ledger postings for adjusting entries.
  • Verify cheque vouchers and purchase invoices for payment.
  • Draft instructions and queries to bank with respect to transaction errors.
  • Complete data entry for all banking transactions, such as US purchases and interbank transfers.

 

Audit

  • Assist in the preparation of year end audit working papers with relevant schedules.
  • Liaise with Internal Audit as required.

 

Reporting

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements for Excellent Stores Limited, its subsidiaries or other associated companies as assigned by the F.R.A.M.
  • Produce inventory valuation reports to ensure key critical areas of the stock system are controlled and any discrepancies are addressed and resolved.

 

Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Manager.

 

 JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Pursuing ACCA Level 2 or a Bachelor of Science in Accounting
  • Five (5) O’Level passes including Math and English
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in an accounting environment
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Dynamics NAV or equivalent accounting software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment of change
